Lauren Conrad: Style

Hey all! I just got through reading Lauren Conrad's new book "Style".

Lauren Conrad is an reality T.V. star/fashion designer/author (this girl just does it all!) with a unique sense of style many try to recreate. Her latest book is for all of you out there who, like myself, love Lauren's look. This book teaches us how "LC" achieves her laid-back yet glam California girl style! And let's be honest we're all dying to know the secrets to getting her beautiful beachy hair and perfect winged eye-liner! This 230 page style guide was such an fun and quick read I finished it in just 2 days! It is 11 short chapters with tons of photographs!

Lauren has an entire team of makeup artists, stylists, and hairdressers helping her achieve her fresh faced look. They also give some great tips in this book. Although Lauren Conrad has a team of people helping her, she has picked up some tricks of the trade along the road, which she is more than happy to share with us!

The chapter topics vary from how to pack a suitcase for a trip to how to style the perfect goddess braid in your hair. She talks about developing your own style and finding what you like and feel comfortable in rather than just what is trendy. The beauty and hair tips alone were enough for this book to be worth it for me. If you are interested in Lauren's style and how to emulate some of her hairstyles and makeup this book is definitely worth it. It is even on sale on amazon.com for $11 (+S&H) or at your local Borders/Barnes &Noble.

Adjusting to Life on A College Campus #1- The Roommate

It's officially October meaning most College students have already had a month or two to adjust. However making that adjustment is easier said than done. Campus life, while REALLY fun, definitely takes some getting used to. For most of us who are used to having our own space, sharing a bedroom with a total stranger sounds like a nightmare. Here are some quick tips that will help you get through it.

1. Set ground rules early on!
Setting ground rules could be anything from no music on while studying to how often can guests visit. I know it's an awkward thing to bring up but believe me you'll be thankful you had this conversation early on. Things you'll want to bring up are anything from what do we do when a guest of the opposite sex comes to visit, to are you willing to share clothes, food, cleaning supplies, etc. Establishing these rules early on may seem like a pain in the neck but you'll be saving yourselves a lot of drama in the end.

2. Be Respectful & Courteous
This seems like the most obvious one, but you would be surprised of how often people forget this rule. If your roommate is studying don't have a group of friends over for movie night in your room, try moving it somewhere else. Remember the room is only half yours so don't only think of your self.

3. Be neat
Although your room at home may have been a regular pigsty, try to avoid this with your dorm room. While you may not mind your dirty laundry all over the floor and the stack of dirty dishes in the corner my guess is your roommate probably does. I'm not saying you have to keep your room spic and span but try to keep the mess to a minimum, besides you never know what cute boys in your hall will be walking into your room :)

4. Avoid Conflict
Sometimes we just get unlucky and are assigned a roommate who is our complete opposite. Then we can't help but feel a little argumentative. It can be even worse if your roommate is a close friend who you tend to argue with. Try to keep the arguments to a minimum because it's not only a friendship you need to worry about, but you live with the person too. Getting in a screaming match with your roommate does nothing but make it super awkward for you two to live together. Pick your battles. Is it really worth getting worked up because she left the top off the peanutbutter for the 10th time? Sure it's a pain, but sit her down to talk about it instead of making her feel bad. This is a much more effective way of communicating in general.

So those are some quick tips on how to deal with a college roommate. Hope it helps and I'll talk to you all soon!

xoxo ~K~

How to shop UK fashion in the U.S.

We all know European fashion is way ahead of fashion here in the U.S., but when most people think of wearing European clothing they think of outrageous avante garde style. While this can definitely be the case on some of the runways in Milan and Paris. There is a way to dress in chic European fashion while living in the United States. The UK has some of my favorite online shopping sites! These all ship to the U.S. and are definitely worth checking out.

TOPSHOP.COM
This site can get a little pricey but they have some really cute clothes. Although, I love it for there shoes, bags, and accessories.

BOOHOO.COM
You may have to scroll through a few pages before you actually find something you like, but the deals on this website are unbeatable. As for the quality of the merchandise, it's very similar to very Forever 21. So I guess you get what you pay for.

MISSSELFRIDGE.COM
I LOVE the dresses on this site....they also have a petite department for those on the smaller side, as well as a great accessory department.

ASOS.COM
This one is probably my favorite. They have the best selection in clothing, shoes, bags, and accessories. It is a bit pricey though.

The only down side to shopping from the UK is the shipping is slightly more than you would have to pay in the United States. The other big pain is that the value of the U.S. dollar does not go as far in Europe. $1.00 American is worth a 1.50 Euro. This may not seem like a big difference but it really means to get a top that's worth 50.00 Euro, You'll have to pay $75.00 American. That being said you may be able to find some great deals on the sites above. I would also suggest finding a friend or family member who is also interested in ordering something from the site that way you can split the cost of shipping. Happy Shopping Everyone! :)

Quick Update- Random

Hey All!
I hope everyone is enjoying their weekend! I haven't posted a blog entry in a little bit because I have been so busy with school. Only 5 more weeks until summer for me! This is my last semester at the college I'm at now. I'll be transferring in the fall! I'm so excited to go to a new school! Anyway, thats why I haven't been blogging as often as I would like. I need to make sure I finish this semester strong so I can graduate and transfer out on time. I'll try to do blog updates as often as I can.

So I tried a new lush product and thought I would do a quick review on it. It's the Sex Bomb Bath Bomb. First off I'd like to start off by saying this is one of the most AMAZING smelling bath bombs I have ever smelt! Lush.com describes this bath bomb as having a "fragrance of jasmine, clary sage and ylang ylang." It's sooo yummy! The smell even lingers on your skin for a few hours after the bath and it turns your bath water a pretty pink color. Here's my complaint with this product. I'm not sure if its just that I don't like lush bath bombs in general or maybe just this one but it seemed to fizzzle out within 45-50 seconds of being dropped in the tub. This may be typical of bath bombs but since this is the first I have tried I wasn't sure. I expected it to last for at least a minute and a half to two minutes especially since the size of the "Sex Bomb" is bigger than the other bath bombs I have seen. But all in all I did enjoy the smell and how moisturized my skin felt after. Will I be repurchasing? If bath bombs were breakable into seperate uses I most likely would repurchase. Since they're not, considering this bath bomb is almost $7.00 after tax, it's not really worth it to me for a one time use. I think for $7.00 I can find some lush products I would much more enjoy and that are worth the cost.

Just another quick thing. For all of you who thought you missed out on the limited edition SOLD OUT Lady GAGA lipstick, MAC is brining it back! It's available online at MACCOSMETICS.com as well as waiting lists' at your local MAC store or counter. It is definitely one of my favorite lipsticks and I'm ordering a few more to stock up since they're limited edition! Plus it's from the VIVA GLAM line which means 100% of proceeds go to the MAC Aids fund to support the fight against HIV/Aids. So you don't have to feel guilty about indulging in ANOTHER make-up purchase because you really are supporting a great cause!

College Fashion!

So I was randomly browsing the Internet and came across this amazing site! It's called CollegeFashion.net it's an awesome site for girls in college or who are just starting to think about going to college!

The website talks about all kinds of fun stuff...

From what's hot in the fashion world right now, to how a student on a college budget can get those looks for a lot less. This week there is a great article on easy packing for spring break!

There is also a fun article on different ways to wear distressed jeans for spring!

Something I really love about this site is when it shows you an example of a good date outfit or pair of shoes or makeup it doesn't just show a picture and give you a link to something that looks similar, it actually tells you where to get that exact dress or that pair of shoes and sometimes will even link the stores website for you! They also update the site almost always a few times every day... so there is always something new to look at!

They do looks inspired by the latest movies and/or celebrities. Right now they have some looks inspired by the 2010 Oscars as well as some looks inspired by Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland. This one is a wearable look inspired by the White Queen( or Anne Hathaway if you saw the movie :))

It's got great tips on tons of other stuff too, such as how to get the internship of your dreams, online/in store sales, beauty tips, and tons of other stuff us college girls should know! it's a site definitely worth taking a look at!

Natural Beauty 7 Piece Natural Complexion Collection Review!

Hey guys!
So about 3 months ago I purchased the Tarte Natural Beauty 7 Piece Natural Complexion Collection From Sephora & I'm really liking it!

it looks like this ------>

Cost- $54 ($157 value)

The Set Includes
1. Clean Slate Natural Primer (full size)
2. ReCreate Natural Anti-Aging Foundation (full size)
3. The Eraser Natural Concealer (full size)
4. Provocateur Pressed Mineral Powder (travel size)
5. Mineral Powder Bronzer( travel size)
6. Travel Size Foundation Brush
7. Reusable Clear Plastic Makeup Bag

Tarte: If you guys don't know much about Tarte, the company was started in 1999 and its goal was to create "fun, easy to use products, that are good for your skin". It is similar to bare minerals in that it tries to stay away from chemicals that are bad for your skin. Mauren Kelly, the founder of Tarte, refers to her line as "Health Couture" which means chic makeup that is good for your skin! Tarte has its own full section in Sephora as well as their own website! They have a wide range of cosmetics that are definitely worth checking out!

Review:
Ok so I got this set in the color light ( I'm extremely pale) and it's great! The whole is set is also organic. Although this is a set package these products can be purchased individually, so that is how I'm going to review them.

Foundation: Tarte claims this makeup is medium to full coverage, I disagree. The foundation is really sheer but that's exactly what I was looking for as a 20 year old college student, I don't want it to look like my foundation is caked on! It goes on really evenly and is a great match for my skin! Tarte claims their formula is anti-aging as well as "wrinkle rewinding", unfortunately I can neither prove nor disprove this claim because I'm too young to be able to tell, but it does have an spf 15. The only compliant I have is that the foundation does settle and separate so be sure to shake the bottle before pumping out the foundation. But overall its a decent foundation in place of bare minerals.

Primer: Clean slate is the face primer. It's clear and feels like an oily jell, but once you apply it to your face it absorbs right into your skin, without making it too shiny! It keeps my face makeup lasting all day, but its not any better or any worse than any other primer I have tried. Primers tend to get a little pricey so getting this $30 primer in this set is definitely worth it. I also like that its organic so your not putting any harmful chemicals on your skin!

Concealer: The eraser is a liquid concealer. The product is in the tube and when you twist it it is released into the bristles at the top. Tarte also claims the skin invigorating formula helps to treat irritated skin, I don't believe this is true. However, it does what i need it to do and covers up my blemishes.

Mineral Powder: Provocateur pressed mineral powder with SPF 8 is a decent setting powder. It's really nothing special compared to other mineral powders but it does a pretty good job of setting the foundation and concealer.

Bronzer: The mineral powder bronzer in Park Ave. Princess is my favorite! It gives the perfect amount of glow to my pale skin. I use it all the time, this is something I would definitely repurchase from Tarte in full size!

Brush & Bag: The travel size brush is a really great value it works just as well as my MAC 190 brush and is perfect to just throw in my bag for an over night trip. The clear bag I wouldn't really use it was a cute way to package the product but I already have half a dozen makeup bags maybe I'll use it to store toiletries when I travel, but other than that idk what I would use a clear makeup bag for....

Overall: I'm a really BIG bargain hunter and this set is a GREAT value! To get all this for around $60 is great! The girl who helped meat Sephora said this should last someone who wears it everyday around 5 to 6 months and the less you wear foundation the longer it will last! The fact that its organic is a HUGE plus. It honestly doesn't feel like I'm wearing heavy makeup on my face, in fact sometimes when I wear it i forget I have face makeup on at all!

For this value I would definitely recommend giving it a try!
